Ser is one of the first verbs introduced in Spanish, and means "To be". It is similar to it's counterpart Estar, but used for different purposes.

Just like Ser, Estar also means "To be", but is used in different ways than Ser. Estar is used for things that are happening currently or that are temporary, not a permanent attribute

Spanish verbs like Ser and Estar need to be conjugated to be used properly. A conjugation is a change in a verb that fits the identity of the person being given the action.
Examples:
Yo soy de Maple Valley. (I am from Maple Valley) Tú eres cómico. (You are funny) Él es un medico. (He is a doctor) Son las cuatro y media. (It is 4:30) El borrador es rosa. (The eraser is pink) |
